Family's First Two Weeks

The kids and I are glad to have the first two weeks behind us. Lima warmly welcomed all three kids with colds that lasted almost 2 weeks. Although, being stuck at home sick gave us time to really break in our new apartment and helped it quickly feel like 'home.'

Highlights of our first couple of weeks in Lima: visiting the 'mercado' by our house to buy fresh fruit and nuts and 'dulces' (sweets), playing in the rooftop pool, adjusting to sleeping in the heat (over 80 degrees in our rooms at night), playing in the plaza across the street, visiting Gabe's school, Angela loading the kids into a taxi by herself, church in Spanish, learning how to pay bills, Ryan taking the family to visit FH/Peru office. Jumping right into his new position, Ryan spent all of last week interviewing candidates for a financial supervisor role and this week easing into a regular routine.

Looking forward to:
> Gabe starts first grade next Tuesday at Colegio Casuarinas a bilingual school about a 7 minute taxi ride away
> Ryan attends a Latin American Child Development conference in Florida, March 15-20

Giving thanks to God:
> Gabe, Toby and Eliana are healing from colds/coughs
> Pretty smooth transition thus far
> A great home in a great location has helped us in our adjustment
> Reconnecting here in Lima with a friend Angela knew from the Dominican Republic

Areas in need of prayer:
> Family - work balance for Ryan
> Smooth adjustment for Gabe as he starts school next week
> Ease in Spanish learning for the children
> FH/Peru staff as they endure many staffing changes

It's really great to hear the your news. Sounds like it was a "warm" welcome--it snowed again in Seattle yesterday if you can believe that! Tell everyone we said hello.

Great to hear how you all are doing! Also good to hear that the colds are almost over. What a huge adjustment :) We will be thinking of you and praying for you all.
