Winter break

The kids had a few weeks off of school and Ryan took one of those weeks off too. We enjoyed reconnecting as a family and playing tourists and getting to know a little more of this enormous city.

We went about 1/2 hour inland looking for sun and warmth and we found it in Cieneguilla. We went to a fun restaurant with tradition dancing and eating. That clay pot held our food cooked underground 'pachamanca,' meat, corn, potatoes and other roots.

We went to the north of Lima in Callao, to visit the 'Fortaleza Real Felipe' (Fort) built by the Spanish in the late 1800's to protect them from the pirates.

We found 3 modern day pirates inside the fort!
"OOPS! They're wet!"
Toby went to pose next to the cannon balls.

Throwing rocks at the beach on a rare sunny day.

The whole family enjoyed playing at the Imagination Park

The kids enjoyed watching us have some fun, but were too short to try it out themselves.

Toby thinks about blowing a giant bubble.

Gabe taking a nap on a bed of nails.

Being silly at the cactus garden, outside the Museum of Natural History

We made a day trip to 'el centro de Lima' (the historical center, with the main plaza, cathedral and palace). The kids enjoyed visiting the first cathedral built in Peru over 400 years ago.

Knocking on one of the doors to get into the cathedral

more fun at the cathedral

It's wonderful to see all your photos and hear how you're all doing.
