Yesterday the five of us headed downtown to the Public Health department for 15 shots of good old fashioned immunization before our move to Lima. Eliana bore the brunt of our total with six shots and Toby still has to return in a few weeks for one more. Though complicated a bit by our nearly two week snowstorm, Ryan's passport arrived back from the Peruvian consulate with his visa. Angela and the kids will get theirs in a few weeks. These are some of the final steps before Ryan departs on January 7th to set up our home and begin his new job in Lima. Angela and the kids will make the move on February 8th.
This reality is hitting hard and we find ourselves in a bit of emotional turmoil. The anticipation has been drawn out and the goodbyes loom large over our heads. Christmas, long to-do lists, packing, family crises, and kids who absorb our stress all heighten the tension. We all want to be about six months further down the road of this transition.
Yet in this profound stress, we were reminded by a song of the reason we chose this path in the first place. It is a song to God, a song about right perspective. It is because of the truth represented in this song that we are walking forward with trepidation, but also with faith.
